It's owner, Hans Riegel, started the business in a tiny kitchen in Bonn, Germany, which contributed to the company's name (the first two letters of his first name, last name, and the place he started). Today, the confectionary enterprise has spread into 100 countries across the globe and brings its delicious trademark gummy bears and other treats to people worldwide.

Chocolate

Most people know those delicious little Cadbury eggs started in England, but there's a much richer history to them than just that. In 1824, the founder John Cadbury opened his shop that sold tea, coffee, and "drinking chocolate," which he prepared himself by crushing cocoa with a mortar and pestle. The interesting bit is that he sold these wares in keeping with is Quaker beliefs, a religion that thought these drinking alternatives would keep men away from alcohol. The brand exploded from there. It developed new products, found ways to thrive and aid soldiers during the war, and has become the largest worldwide candy brand.

So next time you reach for a chocolate egg or a bag of gummy bears, consider where the candy came from and enjoy the sweetness of its rich history.
