Three years ago, I remembered my son telling me he wanted to be a Chef when I asked him what he wanted to be when he grows up. I did not influence him of anything and out of the blue, he just told me, he wants to be a master of the kitchen. He is a picky eater, he doesn't like vegetables and fruits and limits himself to more protein food that I serve him during mealtime. I may probably be a pushover mom for wanting him to eat vegetables and fruits, but I am doing this because I know it is for his own good.
One way of encouraging children to eat and try something new to their palates is to let them prepare their own meals. The reason why I want to involve my eldest in the kitchen. He knows how I exert effort in preparing their meals that is why, he tries his best to eat whatever I serve him, only that he would limit what he eats to all protein. It is quite frustrating, but, I know soon I will be able to let him.
Last Saturday, my son had the chance to experience cooking with the Chefs at Makati Diamond Residences as organized by San Miguel Purefoods Culinary Center. In its 24th year, its aim to instill a love and appreciation for food and cooking while introducing various San Miguel Purefoods Products that can help in preparation ease and enhance skills of young budding cooking enthusiasts.
"If kids are much more involved in food preparation, then they truly get encouraged to eat more, which promotes good nutrition, plus they learn cooking early, a very important life skill" says Llena Tan-Arcenas, the Community Services Manager of San Miguel Pure Foods.
The kids were taught how to prepare 5 kid friendly recipes that they surely enjoyed during their kitchen camp.
