48 Photos: Week 6 Rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high (credits to Wizard of Oz)… I admit I still find this song very pleasing to listen to, specially the versions of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole  and Eva Cassidy and much like the lyrics of this song I believe.

Back when I was young, I used to believe that a rainbow represents all of the colors of the world; I even use to draw rainbows using all of the colors in my crayon box. Back then; we believed that if you try to cut a rainbow with your pretend scissor fingers it would break in half.  And what about that pot of gold? Has anyone of you ever found it?  As I grew older however, I realized that the world isn’t that simple and straightforward, the colors of the rainbow no longer represents everything there is to see, as my world became more complicated so are its colors, pink is no longer just pink it now has variants named fusia, pushya, fuchsia…..  Let’s just stick with pink, ok? As spelling is not one of my great virtues, this after all, is all about colors not spelling.

Adulthood has rob me of my innocence and I do not see rainbows as I used to see them thru inculpable eyes, but I still believe in rainbows as in this lifetime I have proven that “dreams really do come true” I have you LENG.

Some facts about rainbows:

  • Did you know that the number of colors in a rainbow is variable? It is affected by the size of the droplets. So there could either be 7(red,orange,yellow,green,blue,violet and indigo) as in a  true spectrum or maybe less as most of the time the colors in the rainbow are less saturated than that of a spectrum.
  • There are 5 general kinds of rainbows (1) primary – the normal red to violet arcs we see after it rains (2) secondary – or the double rainbow  (3) spurious or supernumerary bows – faint color arcs that appear next to the primary or even to secondary rainbows due to some interference, it normally appears as a hue to the brighter primary/secondary rainbow (4) fogbow – pail circles of light which you can sometimes see in clouds or fogs, and (5) lunar rainbow – are normally white as it is a reflection/refraction of the white light being emitted by the moon. • Did you know that secondary or double rainbows are like mirrors? The colors of the 2nd rainbow are a reversal of that of the color of the primary rainbow.
  • Did you know that we loss our light sensitivity at night so we cannot distinguish much color? That is why a lunar rainbow appears to us a white arc only.
  • Did you know that there are other types of rainbow?  Like the red rainbow, spider web rainbow, surfbows, road spray bows, geyser bows, and mist bows.
