Today : Cravings

source
It was already dinnertime and D was still asleep from his aftie nap. But few minutes later J called me and asked for yogurt. Why yogurt? J doesn’t eat yogurt in the first place. Oh, it was D. Unfortunately it wasn’t available in  our fridge. Also, I forgot to buy some during our grocery last weekend. Now I am in trouble. He just woke up and for sure he is in a bad mood. When J told him we ran out of yogurt, he started crying and was furious already. I went upstairs and tried to explain the situation. He really wanted yogurt. But I don’t understand where is the entire craving coming. He would normally ask food from me out of nowhere but when I tell him it’s not available he doesn’t get furious but this time it was hours of negotiation. When I told him it was already late and we cannot go out anymore to buy yogurt, he then asked for noodles! Holymoly! I just finished cooking a healthy and decent meal (chicken roast pot) for them and he was asking for noodles! Again, I told him we don’t have noodles and I want him to eat food I will be serving for dinner. But he was crying out of frustration. Instead he then asked for sandwich.

He was riding his toycar at the same time eating his sandwich while we eat dinner and few minutes later, he told me he wanted to eat rice. Then, we are friends again and back to happy state like the crying never happened.

Sometimes I feel guilt for not giving him what he wants. But mom instinct tells me that what if in the long run he would ask for more material things and I won’t be able to provide him? What would happen then? I want to teach him contentment that he should be happy for whatever he has in life.

How about you? How do you deal with your kids’ wants?
