With the recent disaster that hit our country and caused a lot of damage to properties and casualties in Visayas I feel disheartened by their situation. There was a lot of what if’s running around in my mind. What if we were in that situation are we really that prepared? If there’s one thing that I know of is, I am not and I can’t picture out myself with small kids in that situation.
But taking few years back I could vividly recall the time we were hit by a strong typhoon Rosing year 1995. Our place was flooded for two days and we don’t have electricity for a month or so. I feel like life that time was hopeless as we were used to have all the provisions but we were lucky enough to have intact shelter that kept us safe.
This time as I watch and read news all over the social media, I couldn’t really help but cry and disheartened for what had happened. Alot of people has thrown their sentiments all over the social media. Despite the untoward incidents happened to our fellow kababayans some people wouldn’t just keep mum about their thoughts and add more insult to the injury. They still have the capacity to gloat over people’s misfortunes. This makes me feel more disheartened. Hoax or not let us not add more hostility to the people affected by the recent calamity. We don't know anything not unless we fill in their shoes. They have already suffered enough. Our sentiments will do no good but will just create more avenue for arguments. But instead let us pray for them for faster healing and for them to bring back their life and enjoy it once more.
On a lighter note, few countries have already pledged for monetary help for those who were affected for their fast recovery. I am just hoping that the authorities will distribute it to those who are in need of prime commodities and shelter. I hope our country would work hand in hand and set aside the political issues in the meantime to serve well those who are in dire need.
We can never thank other countries enough for the downpour of assistance and monetary pledges they have given us. We are truly blessed that amidst all the tragedy we can look forward to a better nation in the days to come.
